Nowhere is the goji berry more revered than in the province of Ningxia, situated along the Yellow River between the Yinchuan plain, the Helan Mountains and the Maowusu Desert in northwestern China. Ningxia has an unusually alkaline soil (pH 8.2 - 8.6), derived from the mineral-rich silt deposited by the Yellow River. That's why this region has become known in our industry as "The Goji Belt". The temperature can range from 102F to -16F, and although that might not sound comfortable to you, it's like heaven to goji vines. Extreme growing conditions bring out the best in them.
