How A Dietitian Does Dessert

These RD-approved treats will satisfy your sweet tooth + they’re packed with good-for-you ingredients. Yes, please!

Frozen Grapes
I don’t know how, but frozen grapes taste much sweeter than the unfrozen variety, and they’re perfect for crushing a craving. I keep a stash in the freezer, and since they’re frozen, it takes longer to eat them, which helps my craving pass. Even better, grapes are a natural source of antioxidants and other polyphenols.
Prep: Clean grapes and remove the branches. Place them on a sheet pan and pop them into the freezer for 2 to 3 hours. Eat them plain or coated in Greek yogurt, or toss into the blender to make a “sorbet.”

Snickerdoodle Fro-Yo
My family’s go-to dessert is homemade frozen yogurt. The beauty is you can use high-protein Greek yogurt and almond milk with healthy fats – and not too much sugar.
Churn It: Whisk together 3 cups plain Greek yogurt, 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk, ½ cup sugar, 2 tsp vanilla extract, 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours. Turn on ice cream maker and pour mixture into frozen freezer bowl. Let mix until thickened, about 20 minutes.

Ginger-Cinnamon Dark Chocolate Balls
These little treats are made up of three antioxidant powerhouses (cacao, ginger, cinnamon). Ginger and cinnamon support the immune system and a healthy metabolism, which the tahini supplies a healthy dose of minerals. So in a nutshell: you’re consuming key nutrients while satisfying a hankering for chocolate.
Roll’em up: Combine 2 Tbsp tahini, 1 Tbsp honey, 2 Tbsp cacao powder, 2 Tbsp almond flour, ¼ tsp fresh grated ginger, and ¼ tsp ground cinnamon. Mix until even. Roll spoonful’s into balls; coat in chia seeds.

Chocolate-Covered Bananas
The key is to use a chocolate that’s at least 70 percent cacao. The higher the cacao concentration, the more flavonoids you’ll get. These support healthy cholesterol levels and a healthy inflammatory response.
Melt away: Cut four bananas in half crosswise and insert a popsicle stick into the cut end of each piece. Freeze, about 2 hours. Heat 8 oz. of chocolate until soft. Coat bananas in chocolate; roll in toasted oats, almonds, or shaved coconut.

Fat Bombs
These fat snacks (aka: keto candy; aka: fat bombs) instantly tame a sweet tooth. Not only do they taste like dessert, but they provide satiety, stabilize your blood sugar, and give you energy.
Melt & Freeze: I prefer a chocolate nut butter version and this lemon chia version. Yum!
