This beautiful infographic explains the lovely effects gained by using specific essential oil scents. If you're new to essential oils, they are highly concentrated extracts from flowers, leaves, and other plant parts, and there are many ways they can be incorporated into your world. I use an essential oil diffuser, which is a device used to disperse essential oils into the surrounding air. I also like to add 1-2 drops to a "carrier" oil so I can apply it to my skin. Good carrier oils for normal or combination skin include jojoba oil, rosehip seed oil, sweet almond oil, sea buckthorn oil, coconut oil and avocado oil.
I have always loved "smelly" things around my house, but when I found out those scents weren't good for me (or my kids and hubby), I switched to essential oils. Chemicals in candles, air fresheners, plug-ins, and anything with a synthetic fragrance are known as endocrine disruptors (aka: xenoestrogens). Read more about why it's best to avoid xenoestrogens, the ways you're inhaling them, and what you can do about it.
