Thankfully Americans are Consuming Fewer Highly Processed Sweets

A 24% drop in 7 years, Americans are definitely on the right track

According to a study published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the purchase of prepackaged, grain-based cakes, cookies, pies, doughnuts and pastries in the U.S. fell 24% between 2005 and 2012.

Wide-scale efforts by public health officials and manufacturers are still necessary to shift consumer purchases toward healthier options with lower energy, sugar and saturated fat content.
